how it would be how it is

my thumb digs into your palm,
presses with
slow
even
pressure
as i hold on to something
building
inevitably
with fierce
fervent urgency,
i cannot let go.

you unfold to
remember me
as we once were,
but never quite
from the same perspective
as my thumb,
pushing in
on the core of your fist,
forces intimacy
where we always chased it out.

my hand is fixed in yours now
glued together
to get my grip,
heavy crushing
your breathing
and you amplify
my own.

prosepiece - missed it

It’s like, I want to like you
But I just can’t seem to break though
This façade that’s been built into
Coat of armor I can’t seep through.
Don’t know why you’ve so rejected
My attempts to make connection
Only trying to be decent
And you’re left so unaffected;
Bound by something so important
Sense of self seems so discordant
With a truthful way of living
Painting some elaborate portrait,
Showing what is real for you
Depicting status to accrue
For someone’s standards, not sure who…
To carry onward in pursuit.
And I see all the ways we’re different
In our spirits and our interests
But soon we’ll be tied together
Even cordial has its limits.
So please, try a little harder
Promise I want be a bother
To your life and means and stature
If you do, we’ll both go farther.
